AAA Donates Anesthesia Services to Correct Child's Vision

Leslie Dominguez was born with a condition called strabismus, a birth defect where the eyes don't line up correctly. Left untreated, it causes impaired vision and a lack of depth perception. There were no physicians in Leslie's home town of Olocuilta, El Salvador, equipped to perform the surgery that could fix this condition. Leslie's mother, Lissette Dominguez didn't give up. She searched for assistance so that Leslie could receive the treatment she needed to correct her vision.

Asheville Anesthesia was among the team of physicians and organizations that donated the services for this operation. Leslie's surgery was performed by Dr. Albert Anderson. Anesthesia services were provided by Dr. Brad Stone, Anesthesiologist, and Scott Stewart, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) of Asheville Anesthesia Associates. Facility services were contributed by Mission Hospital.

Arrangements were all coordinated through Child Spring International and the Hendersonville Rotary Club's Gift of Life Program.

Lissette and Leslie Dominguez will stay with a host family in the Asheville area for two weeks before returning to El Salvador.
