AAA was the "Partner in Health" sponsor of the Buncombe County Medical Society's HeartStrings Ride for Project Access. BCMS Project Access is a coordinated system of free health care provided to low-income uninsured people of Buncombe County through the donation of medical services. The HeartStrings event is a day-long indoor exercise bicycle ride that raises money for BCMS Project Access patients who can't afford to purchase prescription medications. The Asheville Anesthesia Associates team, led by Co-Captains anesthesiologist Bill Eby and CRNA Eddie Hoornstra, raised over $6,500 to purchase medicines and durable medical equipment. This was in addition to the corporate sponsorship donation from AAA.
Since 1996, Asheville Anesthesia Associates has donated over $3.2 million dollars in anesthesia services to Project Access patients who could not otherwise afford medical care.
